“Squirrel Poems” is now on Amazon in paperback!

We have a couple families of gray squirrels in our yard. They make their nests of leaves, known as dreys, high in our trees. The squirrels are fun to watch year round. They are industrious, playful, at once fearless and fearful. They are handsome with tufted ears, robust tails, fur coats of varied shades of gray and brown.

I wrote these poems about our neighborhood squirrels roughly one a week throughout the year 2023; all but one: my cousin Barry DeCarli contributed the poem ‘anthropomorphic II’ and its photograph. The poems are ekphrastic – they are each inspired by an accompanying photograph.

Enjoy!

“Hometown Poems” is now on Amazon in paperback!

These are poems about people, places, and things in my hometown of Stafford Springs, Connecticut. Many of the poems have a nostalgic view. They are Ekphrastic poems, being in some way about the photograph that accompanies each of them. Most of the photographs are mine, either taken in the past year on regular trips back to my hometown, or from my archives. Some photos are from the archives of my friend Buzz who also cleaned up many of the photos with his editing wizardry. A couple of the photos came from people who were kind enough to share pictures of theirs that captured a memory or sentiment about Stafford Springs. Enjoy!

“Backyard Poems” is now on Amazon.

Cover image

I wrote these poems, about one a week, during 2021 while the COVID-19 pandemic raged. As my cousin Barry pointed out, they are essentially Ekphrastic poems, being in some way about the photograph that accompanies each of them. The photographs are of shrubs, trees and things found in the backyard of our house, ordinary things. We live in Growing Zone 6, so the shrubs and trees are hardy types that survive our winters. Enjoy!

“Climbing With Edward”

“Climbing With Edward” is my latest short story, published on Amazon.com and other outlets.  It explores a climb up a mountain, a search for focus, and a challenge to assumptions.

“Trees In My Life” is through final edits and is waiting for a first pass by my new writer’s group this month

And I’m debating using my own artwork (admittedly simplistic) or something fancier like photos. Hmmm.

“Known For Her Courage” now on Sony’s Reader store; Other Updates

Finally… (Link)

Also, the memoir about the trees in my life is coming along.  Summer’s a slow time for volunteer editors 🙂

And there’s a new short story in the hopper.  This one is going to submission at some magazines first.  Here’s hoping.

“Known For Her Courage” is now on Apple’s iBooks store

“Known For Her Courage” is now on Apple’s iBooks store

My latest short fiction is finally on iBooks!  It’s already on Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and Diesel eBooks.  Still waiting for it to show up on Sony’s Reader Store.

The story is framed as a movie review.  For better or worse, that’s how it came to me.  Very visually.
